Hello! Let Me Introduce Myself

May 20th, 2014 by Live Well Omaha Kids

Houser_AmyHello! My name is Amy Houser and I’m a current intern at Live Well Omaha Kids.  I will be managing the LWOK blog and Facebook this summer while our regular social media guru, Courtney Brewer, is on maternity leave. Before I begin my duties , I would like to introduce myself and share a little of my background.

I’m a 2011 graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, IA where I received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology and History.  After graduation, I completed at year with AmeriCorps in Sioux City, IA at the Siouxland District Health Department.  In this position I was responsible for childhood wellness initiatives such as local coordination of the Live Healthy Iowa Kids Governors Challenge and Fall Fitness Day. I also taught physical activity and nutrition lessons to students preschool through 5th grade.

During the Fall of 2012 I entered graduate school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Public Health to pursue a Masters in Public Health.  I plan to graduate this December with a Masters of Public Health in Health Promotion.  In addition to my studies, I have also been active as an intern at Live Well Omaha Kids since August of 2013.  As an intern, I have had the opportunity to assist with several programs including the Family Dining Pledge, Partners for Healthy Schools, and various community events.

In my free time I love to go on bike rides, travel ( India last summer!), go to concerts, and spend time with family and friends. I’m excited to continue my internship by assisting with Live Well Omaha Kids social media this summer.  I look forward to providing information, stories, tips, and recipes to support the healthy lifestyle of you and your family!
