In like a Lion and (hopefully) out like a Lamb. March is usually our gateway to spring and warmer weather, but it’s also been known for a Fish Fry here and there as well as the infamous Fat Tuesday — which neither sounds extremely healthy by name. But did you know… March is actually National Nutrition Month? National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The month is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

This year’s theme for the month is ‘Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right’. To celebrate, we’re going to break down the month and talk to about each meal throughout the day — sharing recipes and ideas that are not only healthy, but taste good too. We’ll help educate you on important things, like nutrients and vitamins that the body needs. We’re also going to host a Facebook Chat focusing entirely on How to Read Nutrition Labels on Thursday, March 13th from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm with one of our Nutrition Experts. Audra Losey, MS, RD will be joining us to answer all of your questions.

Audra Losey is a wife and mom of two young children. She is a registered dietitian with a master’s degree in Community Nutrition and Health Promotion and dual bachelor degrees in Exercise Science and Dietetics. Audra is employed by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension teaching limited resource families in Douglas and Sarpy counties about healthy eating on a budget in the Nutrition Education Program. She’s especially interested in teaching kids about food and physical activity, and connecting with parents to improve the health of the whole family. You can find Audra’s blog here.

If you have questions for our chat, head over to our Facebook page and either send us your question as a message to our page or write your question directly on our wall. Either way, we’ll make sure it gets to our expert and gets covered in the conversation.

Happy National Nutrition Month!
