Live Well Omaha Kids is always on the lookout for ways that kids and families can be physically active together in the community to help them reach their 5-4-3-2-1 Go!® goals. We spoke to Pam Schwarting, Community Relations Director at the University of Nebraska Omaha Athletics on the 2017 Claussen-Leahy Maverick Run, where there is plenty of opportunities for the entire family to get an hour of physical activity!

Again this year the UNO Athletic Department will host the 2017 Claussen-Leahy Maverick Run at Baxter Arena on Saturday, April 22, with registration starting at 7:30 a.m.

The Maverick Run is a healthy, family-friendly event that consists of a 10K run, a 5K run and walk, a kids’ 800-meter race and kids’ activities which will be held inside Baxter Arena. Some activities include interactive inflatables, a batting cage, slam dunk, a photo booth and so much more. The kids’ activities will be hosted by UNO student-athletes, so not only will the kids be able to stay active with the interactive games, they’ll engage with UNO student-athletes who are a great example of what staying active and healthy means. Each child will have a wristband that matches his or her parents’ bands to get into Baxter Arena for the event.

Also, head outside the arena for a variety of vendors, free massages, and social tents, plus the Omaha Fire Department’s smoke house and fire truck.

The Claussen-Leahy Maverick Run is an event that’s fun for all and will keep every participant healthy and active! For more information, on how to get registered for the 2017 Claussen-Leahy Maverick Run, visit
