Why You Should Give to Live Well Omaha during Omaha Gives!

May 18th, 2017 by Live Well Omaha Kids

In the Metro Area, one in four youth are at an unhealthy weight. School-age children in the Metro Area who are most likely to be overweight or obese include: those ages 5 to 12, those in households with incomes under 200% of the federal poverty level, and Hispanic children. These disparities are not acceptable. Helping children grow up at a healthy weight is important to Live Well Omaha Kids. We believe all children deserve to be healthy and live up to their full potential.

Live Well Omaha Kids, under Live Well Omaha’s leadership, is determined to prevent childhood obesity in youth ages 0-8 in greater Omaha. Our mission is to work collaboratively to create healthy environments for children and families through advocacy, education, policy development, and environmental change.

Together with our coalition partners, Live Well Omaha Kids’ greatest attention has shifted to focusing on eliminating inequities faced by some kids in our community. We target behaviors related to healthy eating and physical activity. Our strategies will be place-based to support kids in the many places where they spend their time.

We are fortunate to have the support and expertise of many organizations here in the community serving on this coalition: the Buffett Early Childhood Institute, Building Healthy Futures, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, CHI Health, Creighton University, Douglas County Board of Commissioners, Douglas County Health Department, Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition and the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health.

And we need you to continue this work. Through the generosity of donors like you, we provide healthy living resources and tools to those who take care of and protect children; such as families, school personnel, health practitioners, and elected officials. These resources are the result of our collaboration and collective work with public, private and not-for-profit entities in the Omaha metro area.

I’m giving to Live Well Omaha on May 24 because I want every kid to be able to eat healthy and stay active – no matter who they are or where they live. Make your pledge now.
